Are you still using R22?

Do you know whether your air conditioning contains R22? The refrigerant has been banned in the UK since January 2010. That means that, should your AC or refrigeration systems require any additional refrigerant due to breakdown or maintenance, only recycled gas may be used.
In 2015 there will be a complete ban on R22 refrigerant and therefore any gas-related repairs will be impossible, and system replacement will be the only option.
Although there is no need to 'panic', we suggest that if you haven't already acted, you should:
- Establish whether your systems contain R22
- Compile a register of equipment with details of its general condition, age, make, model and serial numbers etc
- Format a plan of action. Order your equipment by priority - that is, equipment containing R22, or in poor condition should be replaced first. Non R22 equipment should be lower priority.
You will need to get the advice of a competent refrigeration or air conditioning contractor to assess and advise you about your system options. Then you can budget for your R22 replacement programme, thus remaining fully compliant and protecting the environment.
